Packers tried to use the emotions of the lower cattle futures and lower their bids from an early steady mark to 1.00 lower. Some feedlots chose to pass as they hold on to some positives in the market This the last week of the Lenten season thus there should be a bigger push for beef in the upcoming weeks, though beef demand has re mained relatively good throughout these 40 days. Carcasses weights continue to come down and packers still slaughtering cattle at a very current rate. Packers con tinue to pick cattle early as now the Choice to Select spread has widened to nearly 13.00. Boxed beef prices opened Friday at an average of 128.97 up 21 cents from last week. Sales of slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades totaled through KfcOO ajn. Friday. Last week’s frill count was 200,000.
