The 2002 BuU Perform ance Test is under way at the Pennsylvania Department of Ag riculture’s Livestock Evaluation Center in State College. Bulls were placed on test on Oct. 29th, and over the course of 112 days will be evaluated for av erage daily weight gain, feed effi ciency, and genetic potential. Based on the performance of the bulls, the Livestock Evaluation Center can objectively determine their hereditary potential. By unlocking this genetic po tential, the PA Department of Agriculture is able to present val uable information to beef produc ers for their breeding programs. “Pennsylvania agriculture has ‘Products for the Planet,”’ PA Agriculture Secretary Sam Hayes said. “To maintain our leader ship status in America and the world, we have to keep building a strong future for ag riculture. The PDA Livestock Evaluation Center does this. “At minimal cost to the producer, genetic traits can be evaluated on their bulls, provid ing guidance in mak ing important man agement decisions about their herds.” At the conclusion of the test, the bulls will be offered for sale on March 28, 2003 at the Ag Arena, University Park, Centre County, To accelerate and elevate the PA Depart ment of Agriculture’s support of the live stock industry, PDA has embarked upon the construction of a new, world-class Live stock Evaluation Cen ter. “This construction project, in excess of YODER’S _ Windmill &* Service Specializing in new & used windmill sales & service CALL FOR PRICING 717/5324591 Send written inquiries to: 2006 Bedford Road Shippensburg, PA 17257 Cornell Program To Strengthen Sheep, Goat Markets ITHACA, N.Y. —The Northeast Sheep and Goat Marketing Program at Cornell University was established in Januaiy 2001 to improve the mar keting infrastructure for sheep and goats in the 12 northeastern states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Mar yland, Massachusetts, New Hamp shire, New Jersey, New York, Penn sylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia. To keep Pennsylvania’s livestock species out-front in the quest of genetic excellence, we need to provide 21st century facilities. “Now it is time for a test facili ty that better reflects what our livestock producers need,” said Secretary Hayes. “This new complex is ten times larger than the current facility operated by the PA Department of Agriculture. Our new Live stock Evaluation Center is over 178,000 square feet and will in clude learning venues for stu dents of agriculture and a meet ing place for agriculture conferences.” Auto Release Self-Locks H kmr Imtmt hug "We're Here To Se rH c’ ’ J FARMERS Tired of Paying High Insurance Rates On Trucks You Seldom Use?
