September 23-24,2002 Report Supplied By USDA Cattle Calves Sheep Goats THIS WEEK Compared to the large run on Thursday, slaughter steers sold firm to 50 higher on a light run, with most of the increase on Mondays supply Bidding was fairly active early, turning a little weaker as the sale came to a dose The quality of the supply was made up of mostly good quality steers, with the usual market top pers in the mix as well The Holstein run was very light, and a trend was not fully established However, prices did trend about steady on a thin test The slaughter heifer supply was very light, and a trend was not established The majority of the heifer run was made up of heiferettes or over- finished stock, which led to slight discounts on the small run Lean cows sold weak to 50 lower on a fairly good run, with the fleshier cows trading with a weaker undertone on a light test Lean cows continue to make up the bulk of the cow runs, with demand wavering on light buyer attend ance A slaughter bull trend was not established due to the light supply.
