Largest Offering Of Youth Activities Can Be Found At All-American Dairy Show HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The largest offering " activities, shows, and contests at any dairy show wdi be seen at the 2002 All-American Dairy Show sched uled for Sept. 22-26. The events will take place at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The 2002 All-American Youth Showmanship Contest i L.?P en ° n Sunda y> Sept. 22. Registration will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Large Arena. It is open to any youth who meet the following age requirements: Junior 8-11, Intermediate: 12-15, and Senior: 16-21. Age of indi vidual will be as of show day. Animal to be shown does not have to be owned by contestant. All senior contestants will participate in showmanship and the top 10 individu als will then continue to the fitting portion to determine the champion. The Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show will kick off the week of quality dairy shows on Monday, Sept. 23. Qualifi ed entries will be shown by 4-H and ETA members of Pennsylvania in the Large Arena beginning at 8 a.m. For more information contact your county extension agent or ag education instructor. 4-H, FFA, and collegiate teams chosen to represent their state or college are invited to the Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest on Mon day in the Small Arena. The winning youth will re ceive a $l,OOO college scholarship. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10 4-H and FFA individuals and top 10 teams. Kl2.pa.us or (610) 488-6286, or the All-American Dairy Show office. “Meet a Cow” Day will be conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the Maclay Street Lobby of the Farm Show Complex from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This is an opportunity for everyone to meet a dairy cow up close and personal. Participants will be allowed to pet a cow, leam interesting facts about dairy animals, milk production, and various milk products. Milk promotional items will be given to each youth at tending. This event is hosted by the Penn State Dairy Sci ence Club. A junior (youth) show will be conducted as a part of each of the six dairy breed national shows. Premi ums will be paid to juniors in all six junior shows. The All-American Milking Shorthorn Junior Show and the Eastern Regional Ayrshire Junior Show will take place Tuesday, Sept. 24. Wednesday is the day for the Eastern National Brown Swiss Junior Show and the National Guernsey Junior Show. The Eastern National Holstein Junior Show and Mid-Atlantic Jersey Junior Show will take place Thursday. The grand champion in each jun ior show will receive a $l,OOO savings bond. The first ever supreme champion of the junior shows will be selected and receive a cash premium of $2,000. The selection of the supreme youth cham pion will be conducted as a part of the All-Ameri can Supreme Pageant on Thursday, Sept. 26. The pageant will take place immediately following the Jersey and Holstein shows in the Large Arena. Applications are now available for the Judy Collinsworth Outstanding Junior Exhibitor Me morial Award. Any junior exhibiting in the East ern National Holstein Junior Show is encouraged to apply for this award. The criteria will include the following: Sportsmanship, Herdsmanship, and Level of Participation in Holstein Activities. There will be a cash prize for first place. New premi ums, new awards, and a first-ever Youth Supreme Champion of the All-American Dairy Show will be awarded during All-American week Sept. 22-26. For the first time, cash premiums will be award ed to the junior shows of each of the six dairy breeds. A $l,OOO savings bond sponsored by Ren aissance Nutrition will be awarded to each of the Youth Show grand champions. Following the Holstein and Jersey shows on Thursday, Sept. 26, all six Youth Grand Champi ons will be introduced as a part of the All-Ameri can Supreme Champion Pageant. The first ever Youth Supreme Champion will be selected by a panel of judges- and the owner will be awarded a cash premium of $2OOO. Sponsoring the award is LIRA Animal Health Products.
