Cecil County Fair Awards Market Goat, Lamb 4-H’ers ANDY ANDREWS Editor FAIR HILL, Md. “Buttons” may have a round spot on its side, but the market goat wore a blue ribbon on its halter Tuesday at the Cecil County Fair. Immaculate Conception fifth grader Lillian Ferver exhibited the Boer goat. Lillian, 10, is the daughter of Virginia and Michael Ferver, Ce cilton. This is a first-time champion for Lillian, Cecil Sliders 4-H member. The gnat was purchased from Lee Clugston, Elkton. Olivia Farmer, 11, daughter of Teresa and Joe Farmer, Rising Sun, Md., held onto a goat with a streak of white running up and down its face which Olivia nicknamed “Blaze.” Blaze, a Boer goat, was exhibi ted by the sixth grade Rising Sun Middle School member. Olivia has exhibited other goats and dis plays her work from the vege table garden in addition to baked goods. Sheep award winners were also selected at the fair. Sara Culver, 10, daughter of Tammy and Roger Culver, Fair Hill, Md., won champion market lamb with a Suffolk/Hampshire crossbred wether, winner of the middleweight division. Culver has been champion three years in a row, she said. The lamb, nick named “Discov er,” was pur chased from Bullock Farms in Dover, Del.
