Veteran Holstein showman Joe Wivell began showing dairy animals as a youth during the 19605, continu ing on through the next several dec ades in open competitions. This Wednesday marked a new level of achievement in Wivell’s ca reer as a Holstein exhibitor when he took home the trophy for top Hol stein at the Lancaster Holstein Asso ciation show at the Solanco Fair grounds. His winning 4-year-old cow, Zorland Storm Edith, is classified Excellent with an EX-92 udder. It was her first time in the show ring. Wivell was also named premier ex hibitor. Tom Spring, who will be a junior this fall at Solanco High School, took junior champion honors with his fall yearling heifer, Welk-Shade Lee Kit ten. The Quarryville youth has been showing dairy animals for seven years. His sucess this year marks his third time as a champion exhibitor. The same winning heifer was previ ously named junior champion at the Solanco Fair last fall. Selected as winners for their con duct as showpersons were Jennifer Aument, 8- to 10-year-old division; Nicole Welk, 11-13; and Lori Hess, 14-18.
