Most teen-agers who show animals were born into it or at least started showing at a young age. But 19-year-old Kris topher Trowbridge made a deci sion to raise and show goats only three years ago. Trowbridge now owns 10 head and is the Pennsylvania Goat Ambassador responsible for promoting goats and goat dairy products. The Perry County resident started with grade animals and upgraded to registered Nubians, Toggenburgs, and Sannens. He raises them on Curt and Helen Snyder’s farm. The first time in the show ring, Trowbridge showed the grand champion Sannen. The begin ner’s luck was a great boost to his enthusiasm for the activity. Trowbridge milks the does in his herd. “At first I was hesitate about drinking goat’s milk, but now I think it is delicious and think cow milk tastes odd,” he said. One of the first things Trow bridge did when he became inter est in goats was to join the Penn sylvania Goat Association. He said, “The goat community is small, and we get to know each other very well and become best friends. ” In June 2000 Trowbridge was appointed alternate representa tive and enjoyed promoting the association. “I want to make the public more aware of goats and the association,” he said.
