Amy Becker has experienced her share of “curtain calls,” picking up five reserve champion hog trophies in her 4-H career. But never a supreme. That all changed Tuesday night at the Denver Fair, when she picked up her first grand Supreme champion swine at the Denver Fair Swine Show went to Amy Becker, her first-ever grand champion swine. Selling Produce To Supermarkets In Dickson City Topic Of Meeting MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) Pennsylvania Farm Link, in co operation with the Pennsylvania Produce Promotion Program of the Department of Agriculture, will sponsor a meeting for farm ers who want to learn more about selling their produce to su permarkets. Growers are invited to attend a meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the produce sections of Weg mans Market in Dickson City Sept. 27. Wegmans Food Market, Inc. is a 59-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Penn sylvania, and New Jersey. According to Robert Finn, pro duce manager, “The family owned company, founded in 1916, is recognized as an indus try leader and innovator.” Finn will discuss their experi ences working directly with farmers, their preferences for quality produce, and their “wish champion market hog trophy with her 249-pound Hampshire crossbred gilt. The daughter of Marlin and Nancy Becker, Manheim, and Manheim Central High School graduate, is soon to complete a 15-month culinary art training program at York Tech. Dan Atkins, show judge from Lebanon, noted Amy’s champi on, from Class 5, was “probably the most complete, trendy hog in the show this evening,’’ he said. “It put together muscle expres sion, leanness, and frame.” Amy said she and her dad se lected the hog at the Mason- Dixon Feeder Pig Sale in Man heim last May. Reserve went to the Blue Butt (Hampshire/Yorkshire crossbred) hog shown by Nathan Manbeck, Rehrersburg. The 239-pound Class 3 winner, a barrow, is homebred. Nathan, 15, son of Norman and Karen, is a freshman at Tul pehocken High School. This is Nathan’s first reserve champion at Denver. Nathan plans to show at the county roundup at the end of the month. This was his first cham pion hog, though he exhibited two second-place hogs at Kutz town this year. Denver Swine Show show manship champion went to Cody Drace. There were 26 exhibitors and 49 hogs.
