BIS-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 1, 2000 McGee Named Lebanon County Extension Director UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) - Winifred McGee, Penn State Cooperative Extension economic and community devel opment agent, recently was named director of extension for Lebanon County. In that posi tion, she will oversee all cooper ative extension educational pro grams and staff in the county. “Winifred brings to the posi tion previous administrative experience as well as a thorough knowledge of Lebanon County,” said Michelle Rodgers, Capital Lancaster Society 8 Farm Women Society #8 of Lancaster County met at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Joy on December 1. Phyllis Endslow opened the meeting with devotions based on the theme of angels. Rev. Michael Martine spoke of angels being messengers and do f^j HAPPENINGS County Wide 4-H Dairy Club The Cumberland County Wide 4-H Dairy Club meeting was conducted Dec. 13. President Thomas Harwood called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. the 4-H Pledge was led by Scott Walton and the Pledge of Al legiance was led by Michael Woods. The re cording secretary, Sarah Day, gave roll call. The question that was asked was, “What is your favorite Christmas song?” Sarah read the minutes from the November meeting. They were approved as read. Under new business Sarah read three thank-you notes. They were from Katie Har wich, thanking the club for sponsoring a showmanship class at the All-American Daily Show; Ida Showaker, for flowers; and from John, Linda, Heath, and Michelle, for flowers also. Amy Kaucher gave a county council report. Jason Nailor gave a report on the children se lected from the Christmas tree. A group con sisting of Jason and Brian Nailor, Zach Tra vis, Melissa Detman, Mark and Greg Ham mond went to Kmart and jacked a girl and a boy. The boy’s name is Justin, age 11 and the girl’s name is Rachel, age 5. The club purchased items from their lists. Also under new business Kathy Walton talk ed about the float to be entered in the 250th Anniversary Parade Celebration of Cumber land County on May 13. Under new business, Amy Kulick brought up about the Holstein Junior Convention, Feb. 4-6 at Carlisle’s Clarion Hotel. The club agreed to give $lOO. No demonstrations were given. McGee helped to pilot the Learn and Earn for Fun and Profit 4-H program in Pennsylvania, writing work books and organizing clubs for teen entrepreners. McGee earned a bachelor’s degree in French and English literature from Grove City College in 1977 and a master’s degree in public administration from University of West Florida in 1984. She was an officer in the United States Air Force from 1979 to 1986 and served as con sultant with the Penn State Small Business Development Center at Penn State Harrisburg from 1987 to 1990. McGee succeeds Alletta Schadler, who is retiring after 30 years with Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lebanon County. “As a mentor and colleague, Letie has had a profound effect on many of us in cooperative extension,” Rodgers says. “She has been a creative and productive educator who is recognized widely for her per sonal assistance, educational programs, newspaper columns and radio shows on a wide range of family living topics.
