Acknowledging that women face many issues in managing home, family and work, Penn State Cooperative Extension offices in the mid-state area are holding a conference for women on Thursday, October 21, at the Dixon University Center, Harrisburg. Conference doors open at 8 45 a.m. Pennsylvania Treasurer Barbara Hafer will be the open ing keynote speaker. Hafer is the first Republican woman in histo ry to serve as both treasurer and auditor general Her message at the confer ence will be “Women’s Leadership Role in the 21st Century.” Keynote speaker for the noon luncheon is Sheila Dow-Ford, senior vice president and chief council of PHEAA. Dow-Ford was president of the Greater Harrisburg YWCA, currently serves on the board of the Harrisburg Academy, and is an active member of the United Way. Her comments will encour age women to prioritize their time and enhance family rela tionships as they balance family, work, and community. Conference participants may choose to attend concurrent ses sions in the morning. Patricia Powley, Penn State Cooperative Extension agent in Dauphin County will focus on “Retiring in the 21st Century” and the steps individuals should consider as they prepare for retirement Speakers from Penn State Geisinger Women’s Health Center will share information on how to sustain your health so you can live an active and pro ductive lifestyle at age 40 and beyond. In the afternoon, attendees will learn about “Aromas to Sooth the Soul ” Certified Aromatherapist Liz Pezzuti will share information on a variety of natural oils that' will aid in relaxation, reduce stress, and promote a healthy sense of well being.
