Spending time with an early summer heifer calf, what exhibitor C.A. Detwiler calls “The June Heifer,” and giving it lots of “work, time, and money,” he said, paid off handsomely when the Angus champion brought home the supreme banner here at Farm Show Monday afternoon at the open beef show. C.A., 18, son of Allen and Joy Detwiler, Roaring Spring, walked proudly away earlier cm in the day with the champion heifer of the intermediate division. The senior at Northern Bedford High School purchased the animal from a breeder, Bolsen’s Angus Farm, in Lovington, 111. The animal, Bolscns Golden Hannah (S; Bushes Montana Truck, D: Boise ns Taurus Gl2), won supreme at the Eastern National Angus Show in Timo nium, Md, last fall. C.A. helps with his family’s 30-hcad purebred Angus farm in New Enterprise. When he hoisted up the banner for hundreds of spectators at the Polled Hereford heifer champion went to Margeaux Fire* stine, Womelsdorf, at halter. Champion Hereford bull went to Saiunga Acres, Mount Joy. Herdsman C. J. Furlong is at the halter. Angus heifer went to the early summer heifer calf shown by C.A. Detwil er, Roaring Spring, at halter. Farm Show, he said, “this is the best feeling I’ve ever had my whole life.” He said this is the fifth year he has been showing at Farm Show and his first champion. C.A. also said he brought eight animals to the show. He said he spends two hours a day with the heifer, since mid-November, get ting her ready for a championship drive. For her last year at the beef show, Dorothy Metzler of Salunea Acres won champion bull with her Hereford 3-year-old bull, Salunga Form 19F (S: Bar B Yankee, D: CSSBRN RSHING DL 306R21C). The same bull won champion last year at Farm Show. “Two years in a tow!” shouted a friend, Martene Firestine, Womelsdorf, as Metzler accepted the banner. Metzler said she intends to spend more time with her potato purchasing business in the future. This was her last time in competi tion at Farm Show. Angus bull grand champion was Dale A. Rains, Mercer. In other breed division competi tion, Cliff and Lynn Orley, Leba- CA. In the Hereford division, Margcaux Firestine, 13, daughter of Mike and Martene Firestine, Womelsdorf, won grand champion heifer. A fust for Margeaux, she won the breed division with a senior heifer calf, MAP Miss Kai- T (S: Boyd Pinnacle 34, D: BT Nan 57 W). In the Limousin division, Ron Kelly, of Maple Lane Farm, Enon Valley, swept both the bull and heifer classes. In the Simmental division, Lar ry Hughes, Triple L Farms, New Oxford, won grand champion heif er with the champion heifer calf. Simmental bull champion went to Lee V. and Linda W. Snyder of Harvest Plantation, Franklin, for his summer bull calf, which won junior bull champion. Following is a list of placings.
