In essence, he writes that spots are symp toms of scurf infection. Only scurf-free sweet pota toes should be used as seed roots, which should be treated with an effective fungicide such as Mertect 340. Plant in fields free of fungus (rotate sweet pota toes every 3 to 4 years). ANSWER Durwood Tuttle, Knoxville, wanted the words to a song sung by Lee Moore on a Nashvil le record called “The Cat Came Back.” Thanks to Mary Rook, Newville, for sending the words. She writes that she uses the song as a novelty number for her senior chorus, “Happy Tones.” Audiences enjoy it, she writes. We also received several different ver sions, but the lyrics are offensive to cat lovers and would not be considered “politically correct* in this day and age. ~ The Cat Came Back Freddie Wilson had a cat that he didn’t want to keep. He offered him for free and he tried to sell him cheap. He called upon the preacher on Sunday for advice. The preacher said, “Yes, leave him here, It would be so nice. Refrain: But the cat came back, he wouldn’t stay away. He was sitting on the porch the very next day. The cat came back, he didn't want to roam. The very next day it was “Home, Sweet Home." Freddie put him on a ship and they headed for Ceylon. The ship was overloaded more than 20,000 ton. Not far away from shore the cargo ship went down. They gave numerous bunches away and remembers trimming al) the real tall limbs from the top some years, but mostly nothing. The garden books don't mention the need for pruning but do mention the need to give the tree lots of water.
