Grange cookbooks will be available at the Grange's Farm Show booth, located in the Main Exhibit Building near the Maclay Street entrance. "The accomplishments of the Grange speak for themselves," James C. Mentzer, public rela tions director of the Pennsylvania State Grange, said, "as do the recipes that fill our cookbooks. Pennsylvania Means Committee reported a prof it of $81.40 from Stanley Products sales. The Sunshine Committee had Christmas cards to be signed to be sent to members. Following the brunch, the scripture was read by Marion who read the Christmas story taken from Luke. All joined the praying the Lord’s Prayer and repeating the Pledge of Allegiance. In answer to the Roll Call, the 17 members present stated what they want for Christmas. Dorothy Crawford reported six cards had been sent. Caroline Mettles gave a very interesting talk about the Hans Herr House stating Hans Herr came over to this country with his father in 1710. The president stated this will be the last year to have the Christmas Party at the Fire Hall due to the steps. Also, beginning in January the monthly meetings will be held at 1 o’clock in the afternoon instead of 10 a.m. The meeting closed by singing “Brighten the Corner.” to meet in January with Dorothy Eckman with Helen Tout as co-hostess. Michalka said the anniver sary cookbook recipes have also passed the test of time. "These -are recipes that are made in Grange member's kitchens and tested by Grange families," Michalka said. "And, the recipes in this cookbook con tain ingredients that are typical ly found in most homes." The anniversary cookbook is also very accessible-and educa tional. "Alphabetized sections from A to Z, a table of contents and an index make this 488-page cook book ideal for cooks who are on the go," Michalka said. "We also included four pages of informa tion relevant to people who are concerned about leading a healthy lifestyle, and to raise awareness among those who may not be as concerned about their health, but should be." Michalka said there is a sec tion dedicated to saturated fats and oils, a cholesterol content chart, which includes informa tion about total fat in grams, Tracy (Continued from Page B 20) plays on the defensive end and has had lots of playing time this sea son. For the past three* years, Ryan has also participated in the school's Lacrosse team and works with a local landscaping business. John also plays soccer and lacrosse. But his most outstanding acomplishment was participating in Odyssey of the Mind. Schools hand-pick highly motivated and gifted students to participate in the event John’s team won state and regional competitions and went on to represent the state of Pennsylva nia in world competition. ‘Tt was like a mini-Olympics. Team members wear identical T shirts and caps and need to solve problems by using creative solu tions. This year, the world Odys sey of the Mind was held at the CAG „ L and definitions of food labeling terminology. The Grange has four other cookbooks and each is quite suc cessful. The 1984 (red) edition, and the 1972 (white), were recently reprinted due to customer demand. Other Grange cook books, include: the 1925 green hardbound, which sells for $9; and the 1992 green softbound. Grange cookbooks, except the 1925 edition, sell for $l3 each. Family University of Maryland. John’s team was given $lOO to make a car and trailer. They spent one night a week working on the project from November through March. Projects are judged on creative solving, engineering, and presen tation. In addition, at the world competition, members were given a spontaneous problem to solve. The team place 13th out of 64 teams. All three of the brothers were or are in the school’s gifted program, on the school’s honor roll, and all are artistic. John likes to draw car toons and puts surprising twists on them. Ryan sketches outdoors scenes and computer assisted^ architectual drawing. TheTracys also raise beef cattle and Shorthorns on their farm, but do not show diem.
