Cedar Crest FFA Participates In Fall Career Development Events (CDE) On October 24, Cedar Crest FFA participated in Pennsylva nia’s Eastern Regional CDEs. The CDEs were held at the Leb anon Area Fairgrounds and vari ous farms around the Lebanon area. The CDEs included horse judging, dairy judging, wildlife, land judging, dairy foods, agricul ture, mechanics, and agriculture sales. More than 500 FFA mem bers from Eastern Pennsylvania participated in the events. Maryland FFA Land Judging Contest The Queen Ann’s FFA Chapter won the first place banner in the land judging contest held recently. The contest was held in Queen Ann’s County, Maryland. The Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, November 30, 1096-821 Thomas Dotweiler of Spring Run exhibits his champion Arabian Colt, MSP Serall, at the recent Pennsylvania 4-H state Horse Show. Joanna Shopf, Ist-Yearling Colt, Paint, Lancaster. contest is sponsored by the Mary land Association of Soil Con servation Districts as a special project of the Maryland FFA Foundation, Inc. The high scoring individual for the Land Judging Contest was Sherry Riggleman, member of the Clear Spring FFA Chapter. The Clear Spring High School FFA Chapter took the sec ond place banner in the contest. First place team from Queen Anne’s County: Mr. Tribbelt, Laurie O’Connell, Duncan Butler, Chris Meredith, and Tommy Leager. Second place team from Clear spring: Sherry Riggleman, Lind say Mills, Medi Drury, Tonya Robinson, Brian Stottlemyer, Paul Kelly, Glen Ruck, and Mr. Flynn. According to Contest Superin tendent Carl E. Robinette, soil sci entist with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service, nine teams were registered with 44 members participating. Contestants were asked to evaluate soils at three sites for their capability and their limiting factors. The members were then to recommend the best management practices for agricultural and non agricultural land uses at each site. Jim Brewer and Phil King of the Soil Conservation Service super vised the contest The winning teams in the land judging contest from first through third were Frederick High School, Clear Spring High School, and Queen Ann’s High School.
