The 4-H senior and reserve sen ior champions were two well bal anced individuals. Kevin Ehr hardt’s winning five-year-old, Ehrhardt Astro Jet Jody-Et, was named senior and grand champion on her tremendous daily frame. The winning senior two-year-old, C Blondin Astro Preference, ex hibited by Amy lager, was select- cd for reserve senior and reserve grand champion because of her tremendous height and width of rear udder. Judge Speaks had the honor of judging the 4-H fitting and show ing contest preceding the show. Four age groups were judged. Speaks praised the great group of 4-H’crs for doing a “simply fabu lous job!" After the dust had set tled, Jeff Sutton of Carroll County was named champion fitting and showing, followed by another Carroll Countian, David Miller, for reserve. This year’s show was hosted by the Baltimore County Holstein Club. Beautiful, handmade ceram- ic sugar bowls, creamers, and cookie jars were presented to the champions. Several reigning daily princesses were on hand to do the honors of presenting the ribbons and prizes. District Photos 9* Ag Showcase Set For Cecil County Fair FAIR HILL, Md. Everyone is invited to attend the 16th annual Ag Showcase Day to be held on Tuesday July 30, 1996 at 10 a.m. at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area. As part of the Cecil County Fair, Ag Showcase Day features working demonstra tions of the latest agricultural equipment and technology. Stop by any of our participating equip ment dealers or the Cooperative Extension Service for com plementary passes to Ag Show case Day. Come early for morning refreshments and donuts and plan to stay all day for demonstrations and the Farm Bureau Woman’s lunch available at noon. This year’s educational prog ram will focus on Farm Safety, a very important but often over looked topic. Agriculture, with 26 deaths per 100.000 workers is consistently near the top in work related fatalities and five times the average of all industries com bined. Mr. Charles Wobd of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Insti tute will discuss how to recognize and avoid many of the potential farm related hazards. Mr. Frank Muller, Chief of Cecil County’s Emergency Management Services will follow up with a discussion of the resources available in Cecil County should a farm related acci dent occur. Union Hospital will also be present to screen for skin cancer, a common work related health problem associated with agriculture. This year’s equipment demon strations will include: • The latest hay making equip ment including all new disk mow ers and round balers in action. • A tractor comparison course where qualified drivers can test drive new tractor models from Case-IH, Ford/New Holland, and John Deere. • Tractor/loader and skid loader demonstrations to help you find the machine that is right for your farm. • No-till drills tackling Fair Hill’s rocky soils. • An all day display of antique tractor and equipment by the areas many antique equipment enthusiasts. Ag Showcase Day is made pos sible through the efforts of the Cecil County Fair Board, the Uni versity of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, the Depart ment of Natural Resources, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and most importantly the many equipment dealers and ag service providers. Participating dealers include: Ag Industrial Equipment Co., Biggs, Inc., W.N. Cooper and Sons, Ben Haines Equipment Co., Hoober Equip ment Company, and Mid-Atlantic Agri-Systems.
