Central Pennsylvanians are getting "fired up” for the summer’s biggest bar becue the third annual Key stone National Rib Cook-Off and Music Fest, scheduled Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28 at the York Fairgrounds. The rib cook-off, presented by the Pennsylvania Livestock Asso ciation, features four fun-filled days of feasting on savory ribs, non-stop musical entertainment, Bullride Mania, the Hoss’s Family Fun Stage, Kid’s Place, a craft fair, pig races, Jack Russell dog races and many other activities that the whole family will enjoy. Event chairman Tony Dobro sky said, “The Pennsylvania Livestock Association is proud to have been the host of this event for the past three years.” Dobrosky continued, “We’re expecting a crowd of more than 50,000 to flock to the fairgrounds and enjoy the best barbecue of the summer and continuous entertain ment on the Uni-Mart Main Stage.” The event will feature competi tion among IS “ribrateurs,” who will sell their barbecue specialties to the crowds, while competing for $3,500 in prize money. The field of ribrateurs represents nine states this year. They include five rib cookers from Pennsylvania and 10 out-of-state rib cookers, coming from as far away as Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois and New Jersey. Culinary experts will judge the ribs on qualities such as visual appearance, texture, tenderness and flavor. A $2,000 first-place prize and a $l,OOO second-place prize, sponsored by Tri-State Pag ing, will be awarded by the judges. The winner of the $5OO Hatfield Quality Meat’s People's Choice Award will be decided by the crowd.
