’age 2—Dairy of Distinction Supplement to Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 29,1995 Pi William and Peg Kline and their son Lynn have built up their Dairy of Distinction over a period of 42 years. Starting In 1953, the elder Klines bought the farm, located northeast of Elverson that at the time had a small barn and silo. At the time they installed a bucket milking machine. Later they added a pipeline, and In 1993 they built the new milking par lor. Today they milk 120 grade Holsteins and farm 500 acres of corn and small grains. Storage for bulk cotton seed was added last year. This saves $5O per ton on this feed Ingre dient. The Klines depend on the companies and persons who supply their feed, artificial Insemination, and veterina rian service to act as their consultants. They say one of the major farm problems Is to get good full-time hired help. Quality Genuine Replacement Parts Quality Factory Trained Mechanics. Means Quality Service For You. The Klines are very practical in their approach to farming; they don’t try everything new. But they believe computers will be used a great deal in the future of farming. That’s why their new milking par lor is computer ready when the time comes to make the move to automatically identify the cows. “It takes a lot of work and atten tion to details to keep a farm going,” Lynn said. “We like to Dairy of ■ Distinction keep our operation on a commer cial basis to balance the check book. We don’t always try new things first” Kline road runs right past the bam and silos of this beautiful farm.
