DEKALB Gene tics Corporation is an international researcher, producer and marketer of com, sorghum, soybeans, alfal fa, and sunflower seed. Amy graduated in June from Tulpehocken High School, Bem ville, where she served as 1995 President of the Tulpehocken FFA Chapter. Her agricultur al program consists of her registered Jersey cows and heifers and her performance Quarter Horse mare. Following graduation, Amy plans to attend McNeese State University, Lake Char les, Louisiana, and major in nursing along with some ag studies. She was also awarded a scholarship from the university to participate and compete on their intercollegiate Rodeo Team. As this year s DEKALB winner, Amy received a pin and certi ficate, and her name will be inscribed on a special plaque displayed in the school's main lobby. The DEKALB Award, often considered the highest honor a vo-ag student can receive on die local level, is pre sented at nearly 3.000 schools annually. Amy, listed in the 1995 edition of “Who's Who In American High School Students,” was also awarded at her gra duation, the SP. Wil helm Nursing Scholar ship, The Tulpehocken Young Farmers Scho larship, The Berks County Farm Women Group #8 Award, and the Bemville Grange #lBB7 Award. She resides with her parents on their dairy farm and boarding stables where she is employed fulltime milk ing the SO head of regis tered Jersey cows. Also a member of the Central Pennsylvania Youth Rodeo Associa tion, and a current lead er in the 14-18 year old age group, Amy com petes monthly across Pennsylvania in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and breaka way roping with her Quarter Horse, Candy’s Copper Penny. In her efforts as a 4-H Ambas sador for Berks County 4-H, Amy has concen trated on promoting good horsemanship, the safety and good animal husbandry practiced at rodeos, and the good fellowship in competing with other youth.
