Ida’s Notebook Idaßisser On the fifth day of our trip to Florida, wc arrived at Key West It is the southernmost city in the continental United States and just 90 miles from Cuba. We traveled over many bridges to get there in cluding one that was seven miles long. Here a guide rode with us and pointed out the homes of fam ous people. We were told that there are 1,800 sunken ships in this area with treasures. Their trees are quite different too as a Gumbo Limbo tree has a red trunk that peels regularly. The next day we visited an alli gator farm and rode on an air boat The boat carried about 20 people and seemed to travel through fields of grass but it really was a swampgrass marsh. In the Ever glades National Park .we had an other boat ride to tour their 10,000 islands. We took pictures of a nesting osprey. Previously, we walked through the Fruit and Spice Park near Homestead. The Edison-Ford complex in Fort Myers was very interesting as it showed many of their inven tions. From Sarasota we went to Tampa where I happened to meet a lady who was a niece of my fa vorite high school teacher. In the evening we walked on the pier at St. Petersburg which extends 2,400 feet into Tampa Bay, and did some shopping. Allen bought a beautiful wind chime for me as an early birthday gift Cypress Gardens at Winter Ha ven has acres of cypress trees and many colorful flowers. We took a lot of pictures here. We took a ride on Island in the Sky which gave us an overall view of the gardens. Al len and I had been there 47 years before and remembered seeing their spectacular ski show with some of the world’s best water skiers. In the evening we saw Lake Wales Passion Play. Meetings were held on Jan. 19 and Feb. 16. On Jan. 19 club elections were held. Results are president, Ellen Leuenberger; vice president, An drea Leuenberger, secretary, Julie Ulrich; treasurer, Brian Horst; scrapbook, Becky Ulrich; and re porter, Emily Horst On Feb. 16 the club held a regu lar meeting. Club members begin every meeting with a training ses sion for the dogs. Then they dis cussed going on a trip to get the dogs used to different forms of transportation. Most club members were able to attend a mall walk on Jan. 28. They went on a city bus and stop ped at places around Lebanon. Then they came back and walked through Boscov’s, Ames, and the mall area. They also went to Cho colate World in Hershey on Feb. 17. Red Rose 4-H Beef Club - On March 1, the 4-H Red Rose Beef Club held its reorganizations! meeting. The Gloucester County 4-H will be holding a Horse Show and Craft Show at the Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds, Mullica Hill, N.J., on Sunday, April 9. Both shows are open to the public, there is no admission fee, and there is plenty of free parking. Refreshment stands will be open all day. Three pavilions are available for crafrers, and reservations will be taken until March 30.
