Bringing the top price at the sale, however, was the Somerset County Bred reserve champion, for which buyer Tim Bishop, Homer City, paid a sizable $1,700. The 590 pounder was also owned by H. Wayne Miller of Fairhope whose calves in recent years have been impressing buy ers and talcing champion titles. Ronald Kanagy, representing Kanagy Manor Farm, Belleville, purchased both the grand and reserve grand champion heifers which placed him as the premier buyer at the event. Officials said the steers’ aver age sale price was $6BO with the champion or $650 without the champion. With the champion, heifers averaged $6OO per head. Without the champion, the average fell to $565. The largest steer this year weighed 760 pounds and the smallest one weighed 355 pounds. Perhaps the great autumn weather was responsible for a marked increase this year in the number of animals sold. The total rose by some 25 head over last year, according to reports.
