Youth Ambassadors LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Fanning Staff LENHARTSVILLE (Berks Co.) —Ever since Pam Seidel was five years old, her grandfather has been taking her to Grange meet ings twice a month. At first, she was too shy to join in the activities with the other children, so she satin the meetings with the adults. Other children might have been bored, but not Pam. She was enthralled with the pledges and formalities of the Grange meetings. Soon she began participating in the many activities provided by the Grange for children, youth, and families at local, county, and state levels. . Recently, Pam and Floyd Buf fington attained the coveted posi tions of Pa. State Grange Youth Ambassadors. The two were chosen from other Grange youth candidates from across the state during a recent youth camp at Camp Carson Long Institute in New Bloomfield. During the year, Pam and Floyd will promote the Grange at Grange functions, the Pennsylvania Farm Show, county fairs, and other agri cultural events. Floyd, who belongs to Com munity Grange #2048 in Dauphin County, said that he has served in every office since he was a Grange member. “The opportunities are tre memdous for youth,” said Floyd who wants to visit schools and educate youth on the importance of Grange. He said the Grange develops leadership and promotes commun ity service. “It’s a training ground for com munity leaders and provides a plat form forexchanging ideas. But the most important part is that Grange activities are fun. You meet people around the states.” Floyd is 20 years old and a junior at Delaware Valley College. During the summer, he works on his parents’ (Donald and Betty) farm. They raise 2,500 head mark et hogs and nine cattle on their 87 acres. A former FFA member at Upper Dauphin High School, Floyd was on the wrestling team there and in college. He wants to teach voca tional agriculture.
