The “Painted Ladies” Merchants Association is sponsor ing their fifth annual "Watermelon Crafts Festivals” August 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. Dealers will display a variety of crafts on the lawns, sidewalks, and parking areas of the “Painted Ladies” buildings. Dollmakers, weavers, potters, quitters,, and other craftcrs will sell their varied wares. Lots of “Watermelon” oriented items will be displayed as this festival attracts watermelon collectors from five states. Shartlesville is home to “The Museum Of The Watermelon,” the only museum in the world devoted entirely to the collection and study of “watermclonmania,” (watermelon artifacts.) Other attractions at the festival include watermelon sculptures, all the watermelon you can eat, admission to the Museum Of The Berks Society 6 The July meeting of the Berks County Farm Women Group #6 met at the home of Linda Youse, Oley. Guest speaker was alternate Dairy Princess Jennifer Davis. The group will be going on a bus trip July 12, to the Casion’s in Atlantic City. A food committee and game committee were picked for the groups picnic August 21, at 12:30 at the Legion Grove. The group will have a birthday card shower for honorary member Ruth Herbein who is in a nursing home. The August meeting will be held at the home of Mary Jane Hetrick, Limekiln.
