Correspondent READING (Berks Co.) — Jen nifer Davis of Leespoit was all smiles as her 4-year-old Holstein cow won grand champion of the Reading Fair. “This cow has the most bloom to the udder and is very clean over the top,” said judge Steve Shaw. “She tracks real well on her rear legs. She's just been the cow to beat.” Davis’s cow also won senior grand champion and grand champ ion of the youth show. Only a few weeks pefore, this cow won grand champion of the youth show at e Southeast Dis trict 4-H Dairy Show. Davis is a member of the Northern Berks 4-H Club. Connie Troutman’s 3-year-old cow, though the biggest cow in the show, was named reserve grand champion of the show. Stacey Geist of Mertztown won reserve grand champion heifer of the youth and open shows. Jessica Luckenbill, Bemville, won the reserve junior champion heifer. Shaw noted that overall quality of the cows at the fair was good. Several area businesses donated trophies to the fair for the champ ions. Vet eran colored breed winners once again grabbed top honors recently during judging of colored breed dairy cows at the Reading Fair. But one newcomer to the win ner’s circle, Amy Plummer of Chalfont, won grand champion female of the Jersey breed in the open and youth shows with her senior two-year-old, Top-O-Hill Admiral Tasty. This cow also won senior champion of the open and junior show and reserve champion of the junior show.
