Winning the supreme champion dairy award at the York Fair’s open class dairy show was icing on the cake for John Haar, New Oxford, co-owner of “Peace and Plenty SWD Justina.” The win by the EX-91 Valiant daughter came as Haar was cele brating his 75th birthday. He owns the third-generation Excellent in partnership with his daughter, June Boyer, York. Justina is projected to finish her fourth lactation in the Sunnybend herd of the Tom and June Boyer family with more than 31,000 pounds in 365 days, topping her previous lactation of 30,900 pounds. She wa3 also named champion at the York Holstein Show in July and has won numer ous awards since her first trip through the showring as a heifer. Just prior to the supreme selec tion. Justina had been named champion of the Holstein show. In selecting her in for the supreme dtlist, dairy show judges Mike Haines and Jason Myers, both from Maryland, praised the scale and tremendous body of the tall, upstanding 7-year-old cow. A special reserve supreme award was presented by the Wil liam Everhart family in memory of long-time York Fair exhibitors and sisters Beatrice May Ball and Catherine May Kurtz. In the Holstein open class show, reserve champion honors went to Rutter Bros. York, with their win- % ning 3-year-old. Junior champion was won by the senior calf of junior exhibitor Amy Trimmer, East Berlin, and reserve junior champion honors went to the second-placed senior calf of junior exhibitor Angie Beshore, New Cumberland.
