FFA Chestnut Ridge FFA June IS, 16, and 17 meant a lot of time and hard work to nine members and the adviser of the Chestnut Ridge FFA Chapter. During those three days, they traveled to Penn State University to compete with numerous FFA chapters from all across the state in many agricultural contests. Not only did they compete, but they had a great time malting new Chestnut Ridge FFA recently participated at FFA Activi ties Week. Joann Bence of Schellsburg also participated in land judging. Domenick Pulco of New Paris won sixth place and a gold certifi cate, Tracy Henderson of Schells burg won eighth place and a gold certificate. Aaron Corle of Oster burg won 17th place and a silver certificate, Laurie Bero of Alum Bank won 28th place, Jason Mickle of Alum Bank won SStb place. Bill Miller of Schellsburg won 62nd place all out of 81 participants in the Livestock Judg ing competition. A team comprised of Domenick Puleo, Tracy Henderson, and Laurie Bero finished in third place as livestock judgers. Tressa Felix of Fishertown won twenty-fourth place out of SO participants in pleasure horse judging. Laurie Bero and Tracy Henderson both received gold certificates for parti cipation in the Pennsylvania State FFA Chorus. Domenick Puleo represented the Chestnut Ridge FFA as 1992 chapter reporter by receiving a first place, gold certificate, and champion scrapbook plaque for a chapter scrapbook contest with 17 Pennsylvania Chapters participat ing. Chestnut Ridge FFA also received a Keystone certificate for donating money, raised by their candy bar sale in the fall, to the FFA Foundation. Many countless hours were spent preparing for the state FFA competition. FFA members work ed together to create a champion scrapbook and to achieve personal goals in their own contest. Soon the sound of cars and trucks will be deadened and we will feel isolated again. I plant seven kinds of beans and then even if we have dry weather, I’ll still have an ample supply. In fact, there are quite a few quarts in the freezer from last year. And, my husband planted sweet com at five different times and so I’ll be freezing com all summer long. Despite the work at home, he persuaded me to go on a two-day fishing trip. We took our boat to Beltzville Lake in Carbon County and found that many people had arrived before us. The fish weren’t biting and so we had our lunch while we waited. When I finally caught a fish, it was almost stolen from me. It was in a net bag that hung over the side of the boat We had drifted close to the shore as I enjoy seeing the plants and flowers that are diffe rent from Lancaster County plants. But, we got it back. A storm came up in the after noon and all of the boats tried to get out of the water at one time which was impossible. Most peo ple were dressed for the occasion and got their bathing suits and themselves soaked. Allen had a raincoat to wear as he removed all of our paraphernalia from the boat to our truck. So many things life preservers, Ashing rods, tackle boxes, food container, thermos jug and even oars in case the electric motor gives out. Even so we’ll probably go again.
