Actually, the farm has been In the family over 100 years and Is a Century Farm. They have 50 registered and grade Holsteins that average over 20,000 lbs. of milk, and they milk In a tie stall barn. The farm is located west of Meadvllle in Vernon Twp. where they are struggling with officials to get an Ag Security Area In place. Robert and Barbara Keefer and their children, Brian, 17, and Jamey, 14, farm 500 acres In Cumberland County. They have 250 Holstelns, and their 175 milk cows have just gone over 20,000 lbs. of milk. The facilities include free stalls and trench silos. The Keefers pay close attention to the bottom line. It’s not what you put Into It but what you get out that is important. The farm is located northeast of Shippensburg. Richard and Shalva Mains and Richard and Lori Mains. Jr, farm 950 acres in Cumberland County. They have 350 Hoisteins with 150 milk cows that average 19,000 lbs. of milk. The farm Is also registered as a Century Farm and has been In the family since 1830. Two master farmers have farmed here. Richard was named In 1991,20 years after his father Norman Mains was named in 1971. Dale’s wife Thelma and four-year-old son Mark and Dale and Ray’s mother Bertha are also part of the family on the farm.
