The average weight of all the 4-H capons presented for judging was 10'/a pounds per dressed capon. The 4-H capons are judged on a number of factors, including the overall meatiness of the dressed capon. This includes a wide, thick and long breast, plump and meaty legs and thighs, and a “pleasing-to-the-cye” covering of skin on the dressed capon. Addi tional factors to consider are the quality of the slaughtering and “dressing” of the capon plus the packaging of the capon in a clean plastic poultry bag. The dressed capons are meant to be presented in “ready-for-thc-oven" type of exhibit. The 4-H Turkey Roundup involved five 4-H members. The turkey exhibits were judged using a scorecard very similar to the one for the 4-H capon roundup. The results of this 4-H Roundup were blue ribbon, Renee Bannon; red ribbon. Corey Keating. James Bannon and-Chad Keating; and white ribbon, Paul Rosengrant The average weight of the 4-H turkey exhibits was about 24 pounds per dressed turkey.
