Correspondent KUTZTOWN (Beiks Co.) The Kutztown Fair concluded last week with the awarding of champ ionship trophies in all the livestock divisions .and a first-ever animal Mardi Gras. Spectators wandered into the show ring in the early evening cur ious to see what kind of costumes would show up on the various ani mals registered for the show. They saw “Catwoman” in the form of a Hampshire sheep named Stormy, led by “Batman,” other wise known as Jason Levan, 10, of Hamburg. “Catwoman” kept up a steady stream of bleats as Jason led her around the ring. He was the only entry for sheep, and also took reserve grand champion of the overall show. Kelly Glaser of Limekiln dressed up her grey housecat in a cat-sized baseball cap and shirt The wide-eyed cat pawing at the cap, stayed still in her arms while she paraded with several other ani mals in the ring. Kelly won grand champion. Leading his Holstein intermedi ate calf around the ring wasn’t as easy for Brennan Johns of Bethel. The calf was not pleased with the array of baskets roped to her back to depict “Mexican Market Day,” and she bucked and ran out of the ring a couple of times. The first time, Brennan held onto her halter and was dragged through the saw dust a few yards before he let go and dusted himself off. “Now she’s acting like a donk (Turn to Pago A 23) Stacey Dietrich, 12, of Germansville, Lehigh County, Is proud of her grand champion of the Kutztown Fair, a 5-year old Holstein, Lynnacres Weathervane Flower.
