The Pennsylvania Farmers Union (PFU) held its 20lh annual convention last week at the Holi day Inn in Mechanicsburg. Highlighting the annual meet ing were addresses by Russell Redding, executive assistant to U.S. Senator Harris Wofford; Boyd Wolff, Pennsylvania secret ary of agriculture; and Leland Swenson, president of the Nation al Farmers Union. Also speaking were Bill Owen, treasurer of National Farmers Union; Mike Zapach, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield representative; Orvil le Carver, executive director of Green Thumb; and Sharon Ains worth, associate secretary of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. The discussion was on what the legislative staff provides the legislators and the inside workings of the legislators’ offices. Election of officers for the PFU was conducted. Robert Junk Jr. of Dunbar, Fayette County has been installed as the new state presi dent. Junk, a dairy farmer, has been a member of the PFU board of directors and of the executive board. He was also active on dairy and legislative committees. Also installed were Gerald Syl er of Jersey Shore as vice presi dent, Terry Pattison of Union City as secretary, and Naomi Spahr of Lititz as treasurer. Allen Deiter, retiring president, was honored with a citation from the House.
