Adams Co. 4-H Awards Banquet The Melvin R. Durboraw Memorial Award for dedicated leadership was established and presented by the Adams County 4-H Dairy Club to Mrs. Carolyn Durboraw at the club’s 27th annual awards banquet recently in New Chester. Club President Beau Ramsburg presided at the meeting and pre sented the award which will be rotated in recognition of unselfish service to the dairy club. Melvin Durboraw, a volunteer leader with 32 years of service to the dairy club, died on August 22. The banquet was dedicated to his memory. Joy Hess of Gettysburg was rec ognized as the Outstanding Mem ber for the year. Beau Ramsburg of Gettysburg received the Junior Award, and Susan Myers of Lit lleslown was presented the Novice Award. Dairy Princess Jayne Hess assisted by Little Dairy Miss Erin Deputy of East Berlin presented a dairy products promotional skit entitled “Goldilocks.” Jennie Hess, York County dairy extension agent and former mem ber of the Adams County 4-H Dairy Club, spoke on “What’s Next,” an outline of career oppor tunities for young people in agri culture. At a recent competition at Penn State, Jeff Itle of Lew isberry and Gail Rishel of Seven Valleys have been selected as the leading 4-H members in Pennsylvania in the Safety National Awards program. Jeff is the son of Charles and Nancy Itle, and is a member of the Red Land Community 4-H Club. Gail is the daughter of Richard and Rebecca Rishel, and is a member of the Glen Rock Community 4-H Club. In recognition of this accomplishment, Jeff and Gail will be attending the five-day National 4-H Congress at the Chicago Hilton and Towers in December as guests of GMC Truck Division, General Motors Corporation. This program, attended by more than 1,500 4-H members from across the country is filled with recognition events and education tours and programs. The path to Chicago began more than 10 years ago when Jeff and Gail both became a 4-H members. This spring, Jeff and Gail were selected to represent York County in state competition. Following a review of their 4-H records, and personal interview, they were selected to represent Pennsylvania at the National 4-H Congress. Fourth place went to The Future Leaders in the Dairy World. Third place to Milky Way Dairy Club. Second place to Unlock the World With 4-H. First place went to Young Riders 4-H Bicycle Club. Sullivan Review Awards • The top three award winners for the Sullivan Review Award were Melissa Dunn, Alisia Laßosa, and Kristin Gutosky. Leaders Recognition and For um • Recognition was given for the many hours that 4-H leaders donate to the 4-H program. Pins sponsored by J.C. Penney were given to the seven leaders who participated in the recent N.E. Leaders Forum in Hershey. Teen Leadership • Gifts were presented to all teen leaders and county council members who completed at Roundup.
