Beef Club Honors Henry Stouffer Construction The Franklin County 4-H Beef Club held their annual Awards and Buyers Banquet at the Kauffman Communi ty Center recently. 4-H members received their awards earned at the roundup in October. Daren Statler won the weight gain award of 3.06 pounds per day for 181 days. Second was Trina Eshleman, followed by Ryan Eshleman, Jimmy Clapsaddle, and Valerie Bittinger. Nicole Lebo won best project book followed by David Sheiss, Matt Hawbaker, Cheryl Hawbaker, and Crystal Meyers. Valerie Bittinger, Matt Hawbaker, and Benjamin Schellhase all received Rookie of the Year awards. Graduating members Trina Eshleman, Nicole Lebo, and Darren Meyers received plaques and shared 4-H memories and moments with the group. A special Buyers Award was given to Henry Stouffer, a Greencastle building contractor. He received a walnut clock plaque for supporting the Beef Club’s Sale for the past 20 years. Stouffer also shared some of his experi ences as a 4-H leader and how he has made good friends with the club’s members. Regina Lebo was given a desk clock plaque for serving as project leader for two years. Club leader, Leon Lebo, was given a 4-H designed sweat shirt for leading the club. Somerset Co. 4-H Horse Show Somerset County 4-H Horse Club members received awards at the 32nd annual state 4-H Horse Show at the state Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. County winners in 4-H performance classes were open trail pony, Mary Ann Pyle, Rockwood; pole bending pony, Cindy Strelko, Boswell; raised box keyhole horse, Candy Monica Jubara, Stoystown; hunter ponies under saddle, Mary Ann Pyle, Rockwood; working hunter ponies, Mary Ann Plye, Rockwood: and pelasure pony driving, Michael S. Ray, Somerset. Several other Some rset County Horse Club members received recognition in the state contest. The competition gave 4-H’ers an opportunity to dis play their horsemanship skills. The primary puipose of the slate 4-H horse program is to develop skills in horse management. Through competition, the 4-H’crs develop riding skills, gain self-confidence, and learn proper care of animals.
