The horse industry of Pennsylvania is a very important industry in Pennsylvania and has not been surveyed for many years. The Penn State Uni versity Animal Science Department, the Pen nsylvania Crop Report ing Service, and the Penn Equine Council join forces to bring the Pennsylvania horse industry into focus for the 19905. A special economic impact study was sent out early this year to survey the number of horses, types, and uses in Pennsylvania. It will also study the economi cal value of tack shops, veterinarians, and feed and hay services to the horse industry. The results of this study will aid the horse industry to secure research, influence policymakers, and gain overall support for the horse industry. The economic impact study was sent to all known horse industry people, including 27.000 names. Howev er, as of October, only 9.000 have been returned. It is very important that all people who have not returned their survey do so before October 31. Surveys received after that date will not be tabulated. For more information on the survey, contact the Pen nsylvania Crop Report ing Service at (717) 787-3904.
