FFA members from four York County schools competed in a variety of livestock judging activities at the York Fair. Nichole Willwert, Red Lion, took champion honors in the beef breeding show. Ed Livingston, Dover, exhibited the champion market steer. Livingston was also named master fitter and showman of the beef contest. Polled Here ford breeder Andy Schmidt, Monklon, Maryland, served as the judge. In sheep competition, David Myers of Northern took both champion ram and ewe in the Dorset breed. LeAnn Graham of Red Lion exhibited the reserve champion Dorset ewe. Myers also took Hampshire ewe champion, over Travis Hartman, Dover, in reserve. Top market lamb honors went to LeAnn Graham, Red Lion, tak ing champion honors with her first-place mediumweight. Red Lion’s Tammy Flory, with her first-place light heavyweight, cap tured the reserve honor. Taking first in the heavyweight class was Daniel Graham, Red Lion. Red Lion chapter members snagged both the sheep fitting and showmanship awards. Champion fitter in the sheep competition was LeAnn Graham, while Tammy Flory was named champion show man. Judge for the sheep classes was Dave Harpster, Boalsburg. Paul Rauhauser, Dover, claimed a bulk of the prizes in FFA dairy classes, taking champ ions in both the Guernsey and Jersey breeds. Holstein honors were split between Cole Everett and Allen Hushon, both represent ing the Kennard Dale chapter. Everett took junior and grand champion with his intermediate calf, over Hushon’s reserve junior and grand senior calf. Dairy judges were Maryland Holstein breeders Jason Myers and Michael Haines. Largest FFA competition was in the swine category, with 15 entrants vying for top market hog and breeding class honors. David Myers, Northern chapter, claimed all breeding class honors in both Duroc and Spotted Hog divisions. Brian Kunkle, Dover, snagged the champion honors for both fitting and showmanship.
