Farmers Urged To Permit Gleaning HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) State Agriculture Secretary Boyd E. Wolff recently asked far mers to donate produce to food banks in their areas. ‘ ’Farmers can donate directly to a food bank or participate in a program that allows trained crews of gleaners to come out and pick whatever is left after the harvest,” Wolff said. “Farmers have always worked to improve the quality of life for other citizens. They are givers, not takers, and my hope is that food that might be wasted could instead provide nutrition for someone who needs it.” Wolff cited a project in south western Pennsylvania where the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Agriculture Department have organized “Green Harvest,” a program that allows trained crews of gleaners to pick fruits and vegetables that are left over after the harvest. That produce will be warehoused by the Food Bank and made available t ik | V ’ H** 'TW S \ ~ \ I I ' a ‘o i i /i? , , I Subscription Price: A Y $19.00 per year; $36.00 - 2 years A $29.00 per year outside of: \ m PA, NJ, OH, MD, DE, NY, VA & WV A Tj • P-S. ■ Don’t Forget Your Father-In-Law! & ;5' 1 .
