Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 9, 1991-825 Again this year, the Twin Valley FFA chapter received awards at the national FFA convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The chapter received a silver medal in the national chapter rat ing contest. This places the Twin Valley Chapter among the top 300 chapters in the United States. The chapter also received a bronze award in. the BO AC competition for community involvement. Accepting the awards were chapter President Keith McGo wan, and treasurer Kim Hubert, as well as chapter members Brian Putt and Mike Kurtz. Also attending the national FFA con vention was chapter advisor Ronald Frederick, and Ann Kline who received the American Degree. Eric Marshall, 1990 TVHS graduate and current PA FFA slate treasurer, served as one of the official PA voting delegates. The national FFA convention has been held in Kansas Cuy every year since its founding there in 1928. The national chapter rating is based upon involvement on the chapter and its members in community service, leadership, project development, scholar ship, participation in state and national activities, etc. BOAC (Building Our American Communities) measures the chapter’s involvement in community service activities. The American Degree is the highest award available to an FFA member. It is presented to oul-of-school members who excel in leadership and career development. This year’s FFA convention also featured lively debates by delegates on representation and the eventual passing of a new delegate plan which will greatly increase the number of dele gates at the convention from 200 to 475. Delegates also debated a new FFA creed, but decided to revise the existing creed instead. Other issues facing the delegates were designed to move the FFA away from production agriculture. The over 24,000 FFA members and guests who attended the convention also heard dynamic speakers such as Joe Clark, the ex-high school princi pal from New Jersey.
