D26-Lancwtor Farming Saturday, February 2,1991 LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) Managing cow’s energy reserves is important for good milk production, for good repro duction, for good foot health, and for good overall metabolic func tion. The amount of flesh cows carry and the change that occur in their body condition are a reflec tion of how well heifers, dry cows, and early lactation cows are managed. Eight bam meetings have been scheduled in Lancaster and Ches ter counties to help dairymen cor relate the external changes they observe in cow’s body conditions, to changes that occur internally and the effects of those changes; give dairymen a first-hand experi ence at scoring cows for body con dition; and help dairymen learn how to manage cows for desired flesh levels and proper energy balance. The speaker will be Dr. James Ferguson, veterinarian, New Bol ton Center. Feiguson was a mem ber of a Cornell University team that conducted research on body condition of dairy cattle.
