Laura Pouy, Newtown and Rachel Free, Kintnersville have been awarded the national “I Dare You Leadership Award” in recog nition of personal integrity, balanced living, and potential for leadership. The honor was presented by Jeanne Hosterman, Bucks County 4-H coordinator, at the annual county 4-H Achievement Night ceremony. Laura Pouy is a member of the Edgewood 4-H Club and the daughter of Carol and George Pouy. She was recognized for her ability to give to others without the expectation of reward. She is the president and a teen leader of the Edgewood 4-H Club. She is currently in her second year as a volunteer for Contact, a suicide prevention hot-line for teens. This past summer she was a volunteer with Special Equestrians, assisting physically and mentally disabled children experience horseback riding. Rachel Free is a member of the Spurs N’Burrs 4-H Club and the daughter of Tom and Joan Free. Free is a teen leader of her 4-H Club and has held various offices. She was selected for this award based on her teaching and leader ship abilities that she uses to help younger 4-H members. She has conducted learning clinics for her club and has assisted in coaching 4-H members in Hippology, the study of the horse. She ranks in the upper part of her high school class, serves as captain of the cross country team and partici pates in the German, Aesthetics and Ecology Clubs. The I Dare You Leadership Award is made available each year by the American Youth Foundation in cooperation with schools and 4-H programs across the country. Pouy and Free each received a copy of Danforth’s book and a scholarship opportunity to attend the American Youth Foundation’s National Leadership Conference at Camp Mmiwanca in Michigan or Camp Merrowvista in New Hampshire. Over 8,000 schools and 4-H programs participate in the I Dare You Leadership Award each year. In 1924, Danforth helped to establish the American Youth Foundation, a non-profit organiza tion committed to the service of youth through summer camps and leadership conferences. The Warren and Youngsvilie 4-H Wildlife and Forestry clubs recently conducted gun safety and handling programs at their monthly meetings. 4-H volunteer leaders Chris Wolbert of Youngsvilie and David Miller of Warren organized the programs as part of their regular monthly meeting. Dave Muroskl and Ron Car rington, deputy wildlife conservation officers of Warren and Youngsvilie, respectively, taught the safety sessions. According to Sanford Smith, county extension agent, the 4-H’ers went home with some valuable Information and serious topics to consider.
