In addi tion to the usual ribbons and pre mium monies, two youth exhibitors at the York Fair earned an extra measure of recognition. Robin Shive and Ed Livingston, both 17-year-old beef cattle com petitors, were named recipients of the fair’s annual outstanding 4-H and FFA exhibitor awards. Each received from the York Fair board a cash award of $3OO for use tow ard education, purchase of breed ing stock, or expenses of trip to a related livestock show or convention. Nine years ago, as a rookie 4-H member, Robin led her first Angus into the York Fair’s beef cattle arena. The Seven Valley 4-H’er has taken a fair share of high places since then in club and open show competition, including last year’s 4-H reserves champion honor. Robin presently owns about a half-dozen purebred Angus cows and this year’s club steer which she will sell after the upcoming roundup. A senior at Susquehannock High School, Robin plans to pursue a degree in elementary education, probably at York Col lege. Her $3OO cash award as the York Fair outstanding 4-H exhibi tor is earmarked for use toward her college education. Robin is the daughter Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shive, Seven Valleys Rl. Ed Livingston began showing in York Fair FFA competition four years ago, as a freshman member of the Dover FFA. His steer project was named the FFA grand champion and took reserve in the open class competition. For his fitting accomplishments, Ed also got the nod for the master fit ter title. Among his other winning FFA project entries at the fair were hogs, hay, and a variety of garden produce items. With his $3OO cash award, Ed will attend the national FFA con vention and the American Royal Livestock show in Kansas City, Missouri during early November. week at KILE, exhibited here by Brian Lake.
