Brian Lake, 19, who won champion Spotted gilt last July at the National Summer Type Con ference in Indianapolis, Indiana, also picked up champion Spotted gilt (BLL Lena 2-9, Sire Conquest 14-2, Dam TA Lena 6-9) honors at KILE. He’s been exhibiting at KILE only four years. Brian was one of 103 exhibitors who competed last week at KILE, in one of the biggest swine shows on the East Coast Brian was one of eight open breeding show swine champions selected at the expo. The show was split oyer two days to accommo date a total of 126 exhibitors overall. James Parlett and son Gus picked up a host of awards, includ ing a sweep of the Chester White class, including champion (TM Tarheel S9O, Sire Tarheel 21-4, Dam TM Ann 7-10) and reserve (TM Tarheel 16-9, Sire Tarheel 21-4, Dam TM Ann 7-10) boar and gilt (TM Diane 590,9-6, Sire Tar heel 21-4, Dam TM Diane 9-8). They also won champion Spotted Swine boar and Duroc reserve champion gilt. Also receiving top honors were Spotted Swine, James Parlett, champion boar; Redding Spot reserve champion boar; Brian Lake, champion gilt; Redding Spot reserve champion gilt. Judge for the show was Merrill Smith, Greensburg, Indiana, a Berkshire hog breeder. Smith has been exhibiting hogs for about 28 years, has about 20 head of Berk shire sows in his own operation, and works for a large commercial herd.
