The fire caused an estimated $625,000 damage to the struc ture and $1 million damage to the contents. Fire Destroys Hamilton Dist. EPHRATA (Lancaster Co.) Early Tuesday morning a large fire destroyed the Hamilton Distributing Co. and Ephrata Paint Store building at 627 S. Reading Road. The fire, believed to have started at 12:20 a.m. in the ware house at the rear of the building, caused a total of approximately $1.6 million of damage to the structure and contents. About 150 firefighters and sup port crew battled the blaze, which forced the evacuation of nearly 250 households in Ephrata. A Hamilton employee, who suf fered a fractured ankle while help ing fire crews, was treated' at Ephrata Community Hospital. Another suffered respiratory prob lems and was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
