A3B-Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, February 10,1990 (Continued from P«g* A 36) Vicki Hilton of Columbia had a $183.31 paid out of her grocery bill of $240.23. She said, “I didn’t have any inkling this was going to be my lucky day—l thought it was going to be an expensive day going groc ery shopping.” Three lucky shoppers were ran domly chosen while shopping at Stauffers of Kissel Hill, Lititz. ‘The lucky shopper idea was developed to emphasize just how much of the so called food dollar is actually spent on food,” said Phoebe Hitler, coordinator of the event Only “real food” items were paid by the association. Snack food and non-food items were not reimbursed. Lucky Shoppers Learn Value In addition to Hilton, the other lucky shoppers who found this out included Lisa Blankennyer of Lan caster. Of her $64.74 total cash register tape, 68 percent was real food items; 32 percent of $20.50 were non-food items. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Lichty, Lan caster, had 66 percent of their $46.91 total paid; 34 percent was considered non-food items. The media blitz was sponsored by Muncy Chief Hybrids in con juction with the Pennsylvania Young Farmers. Milton Hoffman, Muncy president, provided $2OO for the lucky shoppers. Nord Parkinson, 1990 PA Ag Spokesperson; Jerry Krone and Henry Zerby spoke with consum ers about agriculture and food issues during a 114 -hour visit to the store. Bitler said, “Americans often complain about their food bill, but really they should be grateful for the quality and quantity readily available at only a fraction of the cost other countries must spend. Americans spend less than 16 per cent on income on food while Chinese spend about 60 percent on food.” PUBLIC —3“ AUCTION Farm Machinery, 6 Tractors, Trucks, Etc.
