Acres Soybean Update: soy bean futures rose sharply higher today, posting settlements from 6 cents higher on the deferred May to 12-3/4 cents higher on the spot May. Today’s late session rally was attributed in part to ideas of tightening in the domestic cash markets after most deliveries were stopped by strong commer cial interests. Acres Wheat Update: wheat futures prices added to yesterday’s gains with the spot option posting an 11 cent gam while the new crop months closed from 2 to 3-1/2 higher. Q»ins in the spot option were tied to the ongoing tight deliverable supply situation. Further strength was attri buted to reports that China may be targeted for 1.0 million metric tonnes of export bonus. Yesterday’s news that the USSR would be purchasing 1.5 million metric tonnes provided underlying support. May settled today at $4.37-1/2 while July closed 3-1/2 cents higher at $4.16.
