Acres Cattle Update: Live and feeder cattle futures closed lower but off session lows on session-long pressure generated by long liquidation in advance of Friday’s 13-Slate and 7-State Cattle on Feed reports. Additional sales were made on weakening cash maiket fundamentals with prices lifted late in the session by short-covering. Hie Cattle on feed reports are expected to show aggressive first quar ter placements prompted by “disastrous” winter wheat conditions. Pre-estimates for the 13 State report predicted placements at 106.7%, with on feed numbers at 101.9% and marketings at 97.3%. Should these estimates be confirmed, it will be the first time ever that April on feed number exceeded January inventories.
