The sale is sche duled for Friday, March 31, at noon in Penn Slate’s Ag Arena. Fifty-four of Pennsylvania’s most progressive purebred breed ers have consigned 75 of the best available purebred bulls of various breeds to the testing program here at the Meat Animal Evaluation Center. After completion of the 112-day testing period, the bulls are subjected to further evaluation such as; a comprehensive breed ing soundness exam, including individual semen checks, ultra sonic measurement of fat thick ness and estimated loin eye area and a health evaluation including blood and T.B. testing to enable these bulls to go anywhere in the country. The bulls also must meet minimum requirements for struc tural correctness and breed char acter. Each bull will have indivi dual feed efficiencies calculated. After all of the indexes arc cal culated and the evaluations analyzed, we select approximately the top 75 percent of the bulls to be offered in our sale.
