Washington County Hog Brings $4,10 Bid
WASHINGTON, CO. - W.R.
Sellers Hog Buying Station of
Greencastle, presented Kevin
Martin of Smithsburg, Maryland a
unique birthday present when they
purchased his grand champion hog
for $4.10 per pound at the sale of
champions of the Washington
County Ag Expo. For Kevin, this
was both a happy as well as sad
19th birthday. It marks the end of
his very successful hog showing
career in 4-H.
On the night before the sale,
Kevin had once again captured the
grand champion fitting and show
ing trophy. This was the tenth lime
Kevin won grand champion fitting
and showing in the Swine Show.
Kevin has been undefeated since
his last year as a junior 4-H
member.
When asked how he goes about
selecting a hog for fitting and
showing, he said, “I like to pick
one that is easy to handle and that
will clean up good. Most of the
pigs I have shown were farrowed
on our farm, but this year, I picked
Hamp pig that was purchased at
the Grccncastle Feeder Pig sale.”
During his 4-H career, Kevin
has been in the winner’s circle
more often than not and wishes to
thank the many businesses that
have made his hog showing days
happy as well as profitable.
