Correspondent CHAMBERSBURG (Franklin) The three Sheiss brothers of Chambersburg captured all the top 4-H livestock awards at the Frank lin County Fair on August 23. Of the five weight-class champ ion steers vying for the title of grand champion steer, four were owned by the Sheiss boys. When the judge made his final decision, David Sheiss, 13, was awarded the plaque for grand champion steer of the 4-H Beef Steer Show. His brother Donnie earned the reserve champion steer award with Cody, a medium heavyweight Donnie, 18, was also named champion fit ter and champion showman of the event Besides the 1,230-pound heavy weight steer that was named grand champion;, David also showed a 1,110-pound light heavyweight that took top honors in its class. Eric Sheiss, 16, had shown the grand champion 4-H lamb and the grand champion 4-H market hog earlier in the day. His medium weight steer placed first in its class in the beef show. The brothers are the sons of Daryl and Penny Sheiss of Dar- Pen Farm. Judge for the Beef Show was Tim Livingston of T & J Angus Stoltzfus Shows Grand Champion W. CHESTER (Ches ter)-Twenty-six 4-H members and 107 market hogs braved the scorching heat on August 12 and 13, to compete in the 1988 Chester County 4-H Hog Sale at New Hol land Sales Stable in New Holland. When it was all said and done, the champion chosen by Keith Bard of Portage, was a 230 pound blue backed gilt shown by Melissa Stoltzfus of Honey Brook. The gult, bred by J. Wilmer Stoltzfus of Elverson, was purchased by Hat field Packing Company for $3.20 per pound. Hatfield also purchased Matt Stoltzfus’ champion trio for $.61 per pound and was the vol ume buyer of the day. Melissa and Matt, children of Mr. & Mrs. Lester Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, also had a great day in showmanship competition. Melissa was named champion junior showman and Matt placed second in the Senior Division behind champion senior showman, Brian Beam.
