Lindy, the champion hog, weighed 226 pounds and had a thick, long-bodied built that excelled his competitors. Dave said after all the trouble, it sort of melted into the background when he heard of his success. Nine-year-old Melissa Becker also celebrated success. She showed a Championship pair of crossbreds and placed first in novice showmanship. Melissa said, “It’s the best I ever did.” The daughter of Marlin and Nancy Becker of R 3 Manheim, she said her older sister Karen always did better. “Now, my sister thinks I’m doing better, but it doesn’t really matter because we share the prize money anyway.” The Becker sisters raise about 4S pigs and make friends with some of them, but Melissa said, “We never know which ones we’re going to show since it depends on their weight.” Larry Arnold, a Duroc hog breeder from Womelsdorf, judged the entrants.
