The 1988 “National Simmental Sire Sum mary” contains information data on 2,423 Simmental and 37 Sim brah sires. ASA has published a national Sire Summary each year since 1972. For the first time, however, ASA’s Sire Summary was pub lished as an integral part of the official breed publication, ‘The Register.” “We are very pleased to have the ’BB Sire Summary included in the October issue of our new magazine,” said ASA Executive Vice-President Earl B. Peterson. “In that format, it will reach more than 12,000 addresses, including members, University Late Junior Yrlg. Progeny records were evaluated for seven traits, including: First Calf Calving Ease, Birth Weight; Weaning Weight; Yearling Weight; and Maternal Milking. Included in the analyses ate more than 863,000 weaning records and over 600,000 birth weights. 1 The number of Simbrah buys analyzed increased from 23 in 1987 to 37 this year, “We are continuing to see growth in the Simbrah Registry,” Peterson explained. “This relatively new breed, which combines the gene- Sarah Messick, Pa Reserve Jr. Champion Bull Kenneth Foust Reserve Grand Champion Bull Sarah Messick tics of Simmental and Brahman cattle, is having an impact on the beef industry, and it is highly appropriate that it be included in the ASA sire evaluation program.” Additional information about ASA’s 1988 Sire Summary is available from Association head quarters.
