Currently serving as the state FFA president, Melissa’s credits include a host of awards throughout her FFA career. She was Star Greenhand, Star Chapter Fanner, Keystone Degree recipient, DeKalb Award winner, and also a winner of the Pennsyl vania State Flower Growers award m 1987. The outstanding FFA boy is Kevin Stoltzfus, a 1987 graduate of Twin Valley High School. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Stolt zfus, R 2, Elverson, Kevin served as an officer for many years in his FFA chapter. He was also well known as a showman of his Guern sey cattle at the local and state levels. Following the tradition of the Reading Fair, the 1987 winners of the Outstanding Berks County Farm Family is the family of Ken neth and Sharon Schlegel, R 2, Fleetwood. Dairy farmers with Rohrer Sells Fertilizer Facility P.L. Rohrer & Bros., Inc., Smoketown, recently sold their bulk fertilizer facility to a non agricultural business. After Octob er 1, they will no longer sell or dis tribute bulk fertilizer from that facility. Besides their grange activities, Kenneth Schlegel serves as a Sunday School superinten dent, a member of the board of directors of Farm Credit, the Kutz town Fair, and the Fleetwood Area School Board, and also finds time to attend the sports activities of his children, as well as going hunting and bowling. His wife, Sharon, holds an off farm job but also takes part in many outside activities as well as an active part on the farm. The entire family helps on the farm and out in the bam. Their children, Heather, age 17, Keith, age 15, and Kyle, age 11, have dai ly chores that must be done, as well as a host of outside activities with grange, 4-H, and school. Besides keeping with a Reading Fair tradition, this family has con tinued a Schlegel family tradition. Kenneth Schlcgcl’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Schlegel were also honored as an outstanding farm family by the Reading Fair.
