Area residents were treated to a fantastic showing of 4-H project displays at the recent Montgomery County 4-H Fair, held at the Coun ty 4-H Center in Creamery, August 13-15. Close to 300 entries were on display inside the new center, running the gamut from rockets, models, woodworking, archery and horseless horse, to clothing, foods, crafts, vegetables and more. Adults were encouraged to join in the excitement, too, by entering their creations in the “OPEN” categories, many 4-H parents, leaders and friends participated as well. - Judging is based on a Danish system, which means that each member is judged on his or her own merit and receives a ribbon for their efforts. Blue is awarded for an excellent job, red for one that needs some improvement and while for one that needs much improvement In addition, in the home economics divisions a clover is awarded to an entry of superior quality. In both the Home Ec and agricultural divisions, a Champion in Class is awarded in a class with under ten entries, while Reserve and Grand Champions are recog nized in classes with ten or more. Thirteen members and four guests were present. Ruth Davidson led devotions with Gladys Hoover conducting the business meeting. Cumberland County Farm Women’s Day will be held Octob er 14 at South Middleton Fire hall m Boiling Springs. County Vice- President Margaret Smith and Sec ond Vice-President Linda Brandt are in charge of the event. Cumberland County president Mary Weir reminded members to take part in the state project which Berks County Executive Board The Berks County Farm Women’s Executive Board meet ing was held on August 31 at 8 p.m. at the Berks County Agricul tural Center conference room. The board was reminded of the November 13 bingo games to bcl held at Berks Heim. The program was presented by Pat Lehman, of Group 7, who demonstrated making a vegetable centerpiece which then became a delicious part of the refreshments. Lunch with Representative Noye at the capital will be followed by a tour of T.M.I. cultural Center on October 3, at 9:30 a.m. Some Farm Women’s groups will be setting up a Dessert Stand at the Reading Fair on September 21-26.
